La Folie Douce is coming to Les Arcs
Probably the biggest news for Millenials this year is that La Folie Douce is coming to Les Arcs 1800. The idea of daytime clubbing by the pistes at an altitude above 2,000m combined with top cuisine in a super ambience is finally arriving in Les Arcs in 2019! It will be located just above the arrival of the Villards telecabin (on foot or by ski then). Since 1980, La Folie Douce has been combining positive energies and bringing generations closer: to have fun and enjoy yourself in the middle of Alpine peaks.
Luc Reversade the brain behind La Folie Douce
Luc Reversade (over 70 now) is passionate about the mountain and used to be a ski instructor back in the 70s. And owning the most famous party concept in ski resorts was the last thing on his mind. But he started a restaurant in Val d’Isere in 1979, and that was the start of La Folie Douce party concept. From the early 2000s when Luc started out in Val d’Isère, it was slowly becoming the mecca for party-goers. The idea of partying with live music, DJs and a festive ambience by the pistes was born!
La Folie Douce meaning and a brand generating millions
La Folie Douce meaning in French would be something like crazy in a chilled-out way. The literal translation is “sweet folly”, and today it caters to the younger crowds of course (including plans for a kids’ club) but also to anyone who enjoys the party atmosphere.
Nowadays La Folie Douce is a brand generating over 7M€/year (well more like over five months) with more than 100 workers. It is at eight locations in the French Alps (Val d’Isere, Val Thorens, Meribel/Courchevel, Morzine/Avoriaz, Alpe d’Huez, Saint-Gervais/Megève). Also now La Folie Douce hotel Chamonix and soon probably an international launch in other world ski resorts. As an example, La Folie Douce Val Thorens has attracted a new crowd to the resort to make it more vibrant.
What is a top ski resort for Millenials?
Being the best ski resort for Millenials nowadays is undoubtedly one of the top priorities of any Alpine destination. The arrival of La Folie Douce in Les Arcs (just above the Villard telecabin in Arc 1800) certainly goes in that direction. Ski resorts today need younger crowds, and La Folie Douce is the best way to attract them. Moreover, these villages need to diversify and offer extra activities to the non-skiers.
La Folie Douce is about having fun and eating well
Every day, around midday (La Folie Douce starts earlier with the restaurants) the dancers and staff arrive to attract the many skiers and surrounded by the stunning mountain scenery. And for the ones that had too much to drink, they are taken to the nearest lift.
As we mentioned earlier, La Folie Douce is not just a place to party and listen to music. You can also have food in the various restaurants on site starting with convenient, easy to grab, food. You can choose from burgers to more elaborate dishes not forgetting the tartiflette of course! Luc the owner even had the idea of a food truck going along the different ski spots in the resort. There are also cheese lounges where you can taste your favourite gruyere while admiring the Mont-Blanc.
Les Arcs says welcome to La Folie Douce
With a majority of the annual ski crowd now over 40, attracting the younger generations is the next challenge for ski resorts worldwide. Les Arcs has understood the message loud and clear and said a big welcome to La Folie Douce concept!
