The funicular shuttle linking in 7 minutes Bourg-Saint-Maurice to Les Arcs ski resorts, is being renovated! This funicular cable car, accessible close the railway station in Bourg-Saint-Maurice via a footbridge, was put into service in February 1989. After 30 years of loyal service, its original cars will give way in the summer next to futuristic new glassed cars (imagine the views). It offers panoramic views of the mountains and the Tarentaise Valley. Every passenger will be able to experience it wherever they are, thanks to the installation of the driving position in the middle of the shuttle!
The new cars, out of the workshops of Sigma, Poma subsidiary installed in Veyrins-Thuellin near Grenoble, were expected on-site on 22 and 29 May. The old ones will be taken away by the manufacturer and recycled.
The equipment manufacturer from Grenoble, who had already made the first funicular in Bourg, was therefore used again for the version 2 of this connection between Bourg-Saint-Maurice and Les Arcs. He, therefore, knows what to expect, a plus to carry out the work in a record time -11 months- without affecting the running operations.
This renovation price is close to 7 million euros (cars and electrical equipment), funding supported by the town of Bourg-Saint-Maurice and ADS, the operator of the ski area. The goal is an improvement for the client journey and a 100% electric equipment that ticks all the boxes of sustainable mobility in the mountains: practical, fast, clean and inclusive. Inspiring for other French resorts that are working on projects of lifts!
The official opening of the new funicular car shuttle will take place on December 14th, at the end of the 50 year anniversary year of Les Arcs.
